This workshop will give teachers the tools to help students learn to make inferences, and teachers will be able to explore cross curricular applications. Teachers will be able to help students be more aware of how they create inferences: what role do prior knowledge, assumptions and textual or visual evidence play in creating inferences? We will also look at how to develop questioning skills, including cultivating students’ ability to create their own high-level questions. Presenters will model strategies which teachers can use daily in the classroom to develop inference skills. There will be time during the session for teachers to craft a customized lesson for the social studies or English classroom.
