Encaustic has a long history in art, but is enjoying a Renaissance in the contemporary world. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique using melted beeswax that originated during the 5th century BC. This type of painting provides a rich lustrous surface where the wax and color pigments are vibrant and luminous. Today, encaustic art has seen an even greater resurgence with people using this ancient art form on alternative surfaces and in many new and exciting ways! Join Cari Washburn of Westwood High School as you explore the basics of this medium. Learn how to organize and supply your secondary art space for a student driven encaustic experience.
