Writing research papers is an integral part to help students develop autonomy as thinkers and learners as the research paper process incorporates a number of important critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. This workshop will demonstrate how to make research more accessible to students, as well as feature how to structure the research project to provide all students the opportunity to build confidence in their thinking and writing through the inquiry process.
The following aspects of research will be explored in this three hour workshop: helping students to define a topic and an inquiry question that is meaningful, chunking the research process into manageable pieces, scaffolding note taking and outlining, identifying reliable sources and available resources in RRISD, writing an effective thesis statement, and assessing student learning throughout the process. Teachers will leave the training with ideas for resources and strategies to build research success and enhance their curricula by incorporating ways for students to ""own"" their learning and gain confidence in their reading, writing, and researching skills.
